#day1
Sixth grade rocks, well, at least pop rocks do. Students tasted pop rocks and created similies to complete the phrase "The pop rocks EXPLODED in my mouth like ..." Needless to say, there were a lot of fireworks, grenades, and bombs.
#day2
On our second day, students participated in small groups playing "The M&M Game" as a getting to know you activity.
Also wanting to focus on STEM this year, we completed "The Marshmallow Challenge." Students put their collaborative science minds together to create a free standing structure using spaghetti and a crowning marshmallow.
Our fourth day ended with a bit of a tragedy. Our dear Andre fell and broke his arm. But our collaboration continued with his "besties" cheering him up with a poster.
On Friday we engaged in our first truly academic collaboration. Students shared their mathematical thinking while solving "How many Suzies?" using the Lesh Model. I told the class that their thinking exceeded my expectations. I was truly "Wowed!"
Very truly yours,
Mrs. McAlister
